Reasons to watch the Draft = New York Knick Fans and crushed dreams

June 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Seriously…the Draft coverage this year was tolerable.  Derrick Rose went first, Michael Beasley went second, and, from there, things became unpredictable and hilarious.  A few points:

  • New York Knick fans are funny as hell.  I felt sorry for the kid drafted (until I realized the punk is a millionaire now and gets to move to New York) because he was recieved so nastily by the jaded New York fans.  Comical.
  • For some reason, I get some sort of sick pleasure out of seeing potential draft picks devastated because they haven’t been drafted by pick 10 or 15. Come on now…you had to know that drafts are unpredictable and, if you are good enough, you will get picked. I know there is a big financial difference between 1st, 10th, and 20th but you’ll still be making more than most of the population doing occupations a lot harder than playing basketball so suck it up and enjoy the privilege of being there in the first place.
  • Jeff Van Gundy is good even when he’s not cracking jokes.  Stephen A. Smith was tolerable as a interviewer and Doris Burke still is an up and coming ESPN talent.  The problem is…Stu Scott still sucks.  Well…nothing is perfect.

Ok…so I probably can’t walk down the street now

So basically the Supreme Court, in their ever-knowing wisdom of all things conservatively true, basically said that the 2nd Amendment protects the right of an individual to carry a gun.  Yay.  Here is a situation that could plausibly happen.

  • I walk down the street and trip on a curb since I’m a clumsy bastard.
  • I fall into someones lawn.
  • This person comes out with his or her now offically legal right to carry a gun and shoots me.
  • In court, the person argues that I was “trespassing” and he or she had the right to defend themselves and their property.
  • They get off on self-defense.

Oh joy.  There is a logical difference between people having a right and people having the logical and mature responsibility to that right.  I can’t wait for the Court to realize this…especially with something that was freaking designed to kill.
